JET Privacy Policy
Applies to: JET for Android and JET for Windows
JET is a Japanese OCR reader for gaming. It is designed to work almost
entirely on your device. This policy describes the little data that ever
leaves it.
What JET does on your device
- Screen capture and OCR. When you actively trigger a
capture (Quick Settings tile, accessibility button, or the Windows
capture window), JET takes a screenshot and recognizes Japanese text on
it — entirely on-device (Google ML Kit on Android, Windows OCR on
Windows). Screenshots are stored temporarily in the app's private cache
and are never uploaded.
- Dictionary, grammar analysis, translation, study data.
All lookups, grammar detection, translations (on-device ML Kit models),
flashcard/review history, game profiles, and imported scripts are stored
in a local database on your device.
- Optional on-device AI. The experimental LLM features
(translation, explanations) run on-device via Android AICore (Gemini
Nano). Your text is not sent to any server by JET.
Account and cross-device sync (JET Pro)
JET Pro is an optional paid unlock whose headline feature is syncing your
study data across your devices. Using it involves data that leaves your
device:
- Account. You sign in with your email address and a
one-time code. We store your email address and a per-device access token
(the token is hashed on our servers) so we can sign you in and remember
your JET Pro entitlement. Our servers run on Cloudflare; sign-in emails
are sent through Resend. You can use the free features of JET without an
account.
- Synced study data. With JET Pro, the study data above
— saved words, review history, known words, custom games, per-game
vocabulary, reading position, and a small set of app preferences — is
stored on our servers so it can be mirrored to your other devices. It is
stored solely to provide the sync feature. It is never sold, never shared
with third parties for their own use, and never used for advertising.
Recognized text and screenshots are never uploaded,
including with Pro.
- Purchases. Payments are handled by Google Play (on
Android) and by Paddle, our merchant of record (on Windows). We receive a
purchase or license token used only to grant your unlock — we never
receive or store your payment-card details.
Other data that can leave your device
- Cover images (inbound). The game catalog shows cover
art loaded from VNDB.org. Loading an image discloses your IP address to
VNDB, like any web request. You can use JET without opening the
catalog.
- Translation model downloads (inbound). On first use,
Google ML Kit downloads JA→EN/FR translation models from Google
servers.
- Crash reports (optional). If crash reporting is
enabled (Settings → About; you can turn it off any time), anonymized
crash data — stack trace, app version, OS version, device model — is sent
to Sentry, our crash-reporting processor. No screenshots, no recognized
text, no study data, no advertising identifiers. Crash data is used
solely to fix bugs.
- Anki sync (optional, user-initiated). If you connect
Anki, JET talks to your own AnkiDroid app (on-device) or your own Anki
desktop via AnkiConnect on your local network. No third party is
involved.
What JET does NOT do
- No ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no advertising identifiers.
- No sale of your personal data, and no sharing of it with third
parties for their own purposes.
- No collection of recognized text, screenshots, or study contents
beyond the opt-in sync described above.
Android accessibility service
JET offers an optional accessibility service used solely
to take a screenshot of your screen when you press the JET
capture button or Quick Settings tile, so the text on screen can be
recognized and looked up. It does not read your screen content in the
background, does not monitor your input, and does not collect or transmit
any personal or sensitive data. You can use JET without enabling it (share
a screenshot to JET instead). Disable it any time in
Settings → Accessibility.
Data retention and deletion
Everything JET stores locally lives in its app data on your device.
Uninstall the app (or use Android's "Clear data") to delete all of it.
If you created an account, you can delete your account and all synced
data from our servers by emailing
privacy@jetreader.app from your
account email address; we will delete your account record, your synced
rows, and your device tokens. Crash reports at Sentry are retained per
Sentry's standard retention (90 days) and are not linked to your
identity.
Children
JET is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal
information from anyone under 13.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be posted at
